sketchety sketch

"Let me tell you this: if you meet a loner, no matter what they tell you, it's not because they enjoy solitude. It's because they have tried to blend into the world before, and people continue to disappoint them."
— Jodi Picoult

This quote seems perfectly suited to describe abandonments. I'm obsessed with abandonments.
The first two are sketches of urban abandonments. Any place that's been built for, occupied by, and sheltered humans that has been abandoned and left to rot and decay totally fascinates me. I troll sites like WebUrbanist and Lost America for riveting documentations of these. Maybe because I find it such a fitting metaphor for life -- nothing is as it seems, behind facades and walls there are hidden truths and tragedies, unbeknownst to most. Essentially the simple truth that nothing lasts forever; all worldly things die.

There's a strange beauty and frustration that these great structures that took so much time, money, meticulous planning and effort on our parts to build for shelter, pleasure, etc. were erected simply to be abandoned, neglected and claimed back by nature.

Anyways, the next sketch is a pen scrawl from one of my fave places...the Santa Anita Racetrack.

And, finally, some legs (love me some legs!) from the Spring RTW 2011 Runway Collections.
